If you’re in and around Brighton check this show out we reckon it’s gonna be a blinder!

HEAD: a mind-expanding leap into the future: As we exit the noughties and leap into a new decade – 9 Artists come together to herald the future:
Pete Fowler, Matt Sewell, Pinkyvision, Russell Maurice, Dan Mudwig, Neasden Control Centre, Milk, Paris and Eco. Well established but distinctly avant-garde these Artists share a vision of the modern world that is abstract, colourful, esoteric, cartoonish, surreal and challenging. Each shares an ability to reflect the joy and celebrate the strange, to capture who we are and where we’re going and to keep moving forward. Join us at Brighton’s biggest and best new Gallery – Prescription Art – for a revolution in the Head – for paintings, murals, prints, live art, installations, ideas, conversations and nu-psychedelic sounds. The Future is coming – Be Ready.

This appearred on the front of Cordy House, London last Thursday and will be the last paste up that you see here as Cordy house is raised to the ground by bulldozers to make way for luxury flats and offices.
We caught up the the Dr who said “I never want to paste up a concertina door again, approximately 200 pieces and a lot of cuts and knee ache!”

Pam Glew is putting in an appearance in Hollywood this month in a group show at the Carmichael Gallery along with Andrea Michaelsson, Candice Tripp and Cherri Wood, details and information below.
Exhibition Dates: August 6 – August 27 2009
Address: Carmichael Gallery / 1257 N. La Brea Ave / West Hollywood CA 90038
Carmichael Gallery invites you to attend A Mirror Distorted, an all-female international group show featuring new works on canvas, paper and mixed media fabric by artists Andrea Michaelsson, Candice Tripp, Cherri Wood and Pam Glew.
A complete show preview can now be seen here.
Please contact art@carmichaelgallery.com to enquire about available work.

Afghan Girl (above) is from the new ‘Culture Clash’ series, using eclectic found imagery as a starting point, which is both compelling and yet has some element of vulnerability. The emphasis on the new works is to use found imagery from diverse sources; children in horror films (Daydreamer & Wonder), contemporary images of models and icons (Saint & Candy-pop Antichrist) and children in war-torn states (Afghan Girl).
The paradox of the imagery is explored in the fabric flags I use. Constructing handmade flags, making a hybrid of British/ American/ Iraqi/ Palestinian flags, to create a new emblem is partly a comment on the current international climate.

Candy Pop Antichrist (above) is loosely based on Lily Allen, I chose her because of her ‘bad-girl done good’ attitude. Its called ‘Antichrist’ because of the inverted union jack has been turned into an upside-down cross whilst still being recognisable as a British flag.

Saint (above) is based on the model Lily Cole, the one with the angel face and a saintly look about her, (I can’t help thinking that the Pre-raphealites would have loved Lily Cole, shes like a modern day Elizabeth Siddal). The ‘idol’ is given a halo of light, a gentle nod to the way we celebrate beauty above many other attributes.
The original flags were made from American flags, turned into Union Jacks with many pairs of denim ieans with the rivets and pockets still visible. The images are painted with bleach freehand with a sponge, to make these new deconstructed cameo portraits.

Just checking in with all the latest news and happenings at Art-el.
We hope this finds you all in good spirits especially with Mr Sun being so co-operative of late.
So here's whats new
Artist Rostone, co-founder of the Centrefold Gallery and member of the somewhat infamous or anonymous Readerswives Collective who reside on their own crazy Isle of Guernsey. Not strictly speaking their own Isle but you get the drift.
Rostone's work is the result of a collision of 'Visual ingredients'. The essence of this visual sampling process in his artwork is influenced by his music production, he samples from the past, re-appropriates and creates something new to. The influence of Pop Art and Graffiti culture are also blatantly apparent, as is Rostone's fascination with nostalgia. When compiled and collaged together all of these elements create complex layered compositions that deal equally with complex subjects of love, memory and the coming of age.
He has exhibited both locally and throughout the UK, and we are pleased to bring in a very affordable range of his original work.
With open arms & our hearts on our sleeves we also bring you a new selection of work from one of our favourite females in the form of Dora. We have a number of original pieces & splattering of limited edition prints, so go check her section.
On the same theme and opening on the 10th of July at the Oblong Gallery is an exhibition well worth a visit. Great Birds of Great Britain is an exhibition of both solo and collaborative works from Art-el represented artists Dora & Milk in conjunction with the talented Amour and the delightfully dope photography of the lovely K148.
The first ever collaborative show from the above artists. The four formed this collective after meeting in the underground graffiti circles, painting walls and photographing the evolution of the art form. Print, paint and photography have brought these four birds together.
After finding each others' passions they are determined to take a step forward and create something totally fresh and unique. Expect to peer into a boudoir of colour, texture and design with solo and collaborative pieces spilling from wall to canvas and back again. Exploring an intoxicating mix of juiced up logos, great birds, female forms and a spoonful of graffiti seen through a very different eye.

Rostone lives and works on Guernsey in the Channel islands, he is also the
founding member of the Readerswives Collective and is also one of the
co-founders of the Centre Fold Gallery. He has exhibited both locally and

He is also currently exhibiting work in the Readerswives current exhibition "The House Of Frankenstein" at The Berni Gallery, The Jersey Arts Centre, Phillips Street, St Helier.
The show runs from the 6th July to the 25th July, here are a few taster pics ...
