Co-LAB – officially open

March 17, 2013

Wow what a great day it was yesterday.

The one thing that we didn’t think would be working in time was the wonderful coffee machine, so when on Saturday morning the Co-LAB shop slowly filled with the aroma of ground coffee beans everybody breathed a sigh of relief and smiles filled faces.

The shop was busy all day and filled with great tunes as the DJ line up took turns at the decks.

A huge thanks to everybody who mucked in to make this happen (and happen on schedule), to all those that made the effort to put your head through the doors yesterday (and hopefully in the days, weeks, and months to come), to the artists who made those extra special touches, to the DJ’s for banging out da tunes, to all those who helped get Co-LAB out there re-blogging, sharing and re-tweeting and of course to Ujima Radio’s Mistri, although if you weren’t listening I can’t tell you why! (98FM)

Co-LAB is now open everyday at 2-4 Fairfax Street, Bristol, BS1 3DB – Monday – Saturday 10am – 6pm and Sundays 11am – 5pm.

Co-LAB opens 16th March 2013 – 1 day to go!

March 17, 2013

With only a day left to go until the doors were thrown open to the public, there was a lot to do on Friday.

The t-shirts crew’s were in hanging up stock and pictures were frantically being screwed onto walls.  The huge music system got a make-over from a ‘mini’ Unwellcome Relatives’ crew, 3dom threw some colour around inside and the outside got a neon make over by Paris.

And with only a few finishing touches left to do first thing on the Saturday morning the opening was well on schedule!

Co-LAB opens 16th March 2013

March 8, 2013

It was a tough decision for us at Art-el Gallery to call it a day at The College Project at the end of last year, but they do say that as one door closes another opens and that is exactly what has happened.

Art-el has joined forces with the lovely PAPERpublication to form the collaborative community that is Co-LAB.

A coLABoration of 2 art galleries, a cafe,  4 T-Shirt companies and a publication all under one roof, this is going to be the new cool place to be.

The shop opens on the 16th March so come and join us for our opening at 2-4, Fairfax Street (corner of Nelson Street), Bristol BS1 3DB, between 11am – 11pm.

We are all currently working hard to turn this shop into the monster that is is destined to be, here are a few snap of work in progress .. as you can see there is still lots to do.

Erms ‘Everything begins with an E’ solo show @ Art-el Gallery

June 5, 2012

It was a very busy week last week. Erms arrived into Bristol from Paris on Sunday 27th May and on Monday the work began.

First up deciding the order of the paintings and marking out the walls ready to go to town with the Montana!

Tuesday – and it’s time to make a start on the show installation piece and fashion some aerosol caps out of buckets.  Just for the record, DIY stores do not make downpipe in lengths that will fit into a standard hatchback car – so for any of you out there in Bristol who saw some crazy woman in a car park attacking downpipe with a hacksaw – that was me and this is why!

Great waves made on the painting front on Wednesday.

As if it wasn’t enough that the walls have eyes, it’s also time to add some skeleton hands – lots of them!

Painting done it’s time to start hanging – string, clips and a man who can tie knots desperately required (and found in the form of Aeddon who was amazing, big up and thanks for all your help).

On Friday printmaster and sticker king Stickee arrived to add some vinyl finishing touches.

Not long to go and the gallery is looking somewhat …….. unready!   It’s a mad dash to the 6pm deadline and we didn’t quite make it, a little wait was necessary but we hope it was worth it.

The work is absolutely amazing and with the exception of the show print all the work that you can see in these photo’s is freehand and original, using a range of media including, gouache, permanent marker and posca.  The detail is just outstanding.

The show is open until June 22nd.   Thursday & Friday 11:30 – 17:30 and Friday 12: to 16:00.

Don’t miss it and please don’t mention luggage tags!!!
