CAUTIONARY TALES – DEBUT SOLO SHOW BY SPQR

October the 10th, 2008 sees the opening of ‘CAUTIONARY TALES’, the debut solo show by South West stencil artist SPQR. The event, produced by Steal From Work will be held at Trash Express, another lost and forgotten building in the great city of Bristol.

SPQR uses a mix of stencils and freehand spray-can work to montage and subvert popular contemporary imagery from the pop art world through to images harvested from the continual media onslaught.

Highly collected and hugely popular, he quickly sold out at his last two shows and is famed for such iconic pieces as The Fifth Man, Paint Bomber and Patty Hirst.

We invite you to come and enjoy the unveiling of all new works and take note of these cautionary tales…

The Mercy Centre Foundation Appeal

September 23, 2008

During the last few months three lowly sketch pads have been making their way around the country and pitching up at the studios and homes of some very well recognised artists.  Their once empty pages are now over flowing with paintings from –

Mr Jago

Guy Denning

Grafter

Jef Aerosol

Beejoir
Matt Small

These sketch pads have now made their way back to the place where it all began, but this is not the end of the journey, they have one final trip to make and it could be to your house!

The pads are to be auctioned in October in order to raise funds for the Mercy Centre Foundation who work to help the children and communities of the many slums of Bangkok.  You could win an incredibly rare piece of art and help an extremely worthwhile cause.

All that’s left to say now is good luck and thanks to all that take part in the auction and of course to Neil (aka Harveyn) and Ged who have set up and organised this fund-raiser.

Spring Newzzzz

April 14, 2008

Yellow

Just a quick newsletter to bring you bang up to date with what has, is and will be going on over the next few weeks and months.

With just a moment’s reflection it was wicked that (man of the moment) SPQR’s first print release sold out in super quick time, so a huge thanks to everyone who ordered, not only the print but weighed in buying work from all artists featured on the site and of course thanks to the artists.

On the same tip, a huge shout to Nick Walker, Pam Glew, Adam Koukoudakis and Brian Jones who have all enjoyed success in LA in recent months.

(Note to self, shut up and get on with it)

We are pleased to hear that Mr Koukoudakis has just put the finishing touches to a nice edition on canvas of the image that has proved to be his most popular to date, Cheeky F**ckin’ Pigs!

Add to the mixer 4 new pieces of ‘utter loveliness’ on wood, from the little cockney diamond known as Dora.  She will soon be launching www.okdora.com, which will document her work, both indoor and out and generally ‘Dora’ things up.

Seems like Jago has gone abstract mental, he’s really dropping some fresh works now that he’s up and running in his new studio space. We will be putting up a new canvas more sweet originals on fancy paper.

There are another 6 SPQR 5th Man studies available which will grace the site for a mere 3 seconds very soon.

Looking forward to the sunny end of spring we have new and old pieces from Graham Paris (TCF Crew, Wet Shame, Kuilddosh and legendary typographer), along with new works from K-Guy and originals and prints from a number of the South West’s finest.

ALL new work will be released on a totally random basis i.e. when the insomnia is bad it could be 2am which would suit those not adhering to GMT!

Rock Steady
