Completely self-taught, Pedro Matos first picked up a paint brush at the age of 16, now at still only 20 his work work is outstanding and in great demand. His multi-layered work on canvas using oil, acrylic and aerosol paints is truly outstanding and his charcoal sketches are equally as beautiful. To truly appreciate the skill that Pedro has nurtured through his determination and dedication his work needs to be seen in the flesh, and for those of you who find themselves in Lisbon at the start of June, have the opportunity to do just that. Montana Shop and Gallery in Lisbon is hosting Pedro’s solo exhibiton, ‘Reality Show’ which opens on the 4th June 2010.
This solo show is not the only thing that has been keeping Pedro busy, his talent has caught the eye of designer Ralph Lauren who has invited him to to be involved in the project “Art Stars” along side artists such as Herakut, Alexone, Case, L’Atlas, Microbo, ROA, Sten & Lex, Zosen. Each artist has been requested to decorate a star made of denim, each of which will then be showcased in a Raulph Lauren or Polo Jeans shop, and later in November for a collective exhibition in London.
Pedros work can also be found on the street, he uses a combination of paint and paste-ups of his charcoal sketches to great effect and it is this which has also found him involved in the Living Walls Conference in Atlanta in July, an event focusing street art and its role in engaging public spaces.
All this and a print being launched soon too.
Well deserved recognition Pedro, we are extremely happy for you.
