At 6pm on Friday 12th November Weapon of Choice Gallery will be throwing open their doors to the first solo show from the artist ‘Lokey’. Lokey was born and raised in Bristol. His passion for graffiti started in the mid 1980’s following a chance encounter in a local park with some break-dancing kids who had returned from their American holiday armed with hip-hop mix tapes and photographs of graffiti.
Lokey is a product of the Kingswood Hip Hop scene that nurtured the likes of Deed, Cheo, Kato and Soker. The youngest of the Veterans of Bristol writers he has been painting the streets for the last twenty years during which time he has been a member of Bad Applez, Dry Breadz, collaborated with many of the big names in graffiti (including Banksy) and is now considered one of the best 3D letter writers around.
This show is an exhibition of artworks adapted from Lokey’s black books, his inspiration for his graffiti, and an insight into his imagination. This one’s not to be missed!
Show runs until the 5th of December 2010.

What a day.
The day started at 11ish, laying out the art work where we intended to hang it. The art went up, and came back down again, got moved, went up and came back down again. This happened for most of the morning and well into the afternoon.
Then after a red bull or two, not only did we get wings but some inspiration too and the pieces started flying up. 12 hours later most of the show was hung, phew.
Looking forward to putting the finishes touches together tomorrow and throwing open those doors.

Coming Together

Yellow
Just a quick newsletter to bring you bang up to date with what has, is and will be going on over the next few weeks and months.
With just a moment’s reflection it was wicked that (man of the moment) SPQR’s first print release sold out in super quick time, so a huge thanks to everyone who ordered, not only the print but weighed in buying work from all artists featured on the site and of course thanks to the artists.
On the same tip, a huge shout to Nick Walker, Pam Glew, Adam Koukoudakis and Brian Jones who have all enjoyed success in LA in recent months.
(Note to self, shut up and get on with it)
We are pleased to hear that Mr Koukoudakis has just put the finishing touches to a nice edition on canvas of the image that has proved to be his most popular to date, Cheeky F**ckin’ Pigs!
Add to the mixer 4 new pieces of ‘utter loveliness’ on wood, from the little cockney diamond known as Dora. She will soon be launching www.okdora.com, which will document her work, both indoor and out and generally ‘Dora’ things up.
Seems like Jago has gone abstract mental, he’s really dropping some fresh works now that he’s up and running in his new studio space. We will be putting up a new canvas more sweet originals on fancy paper.
There are another 6 SPQR 5th Man studies available which will grace the site for a mere 3 seconds very soon.
Looking forward to the sunny end of spring we have new and old pieces from Graham Paris (TCF Crew, Wet Shame, Kuilddosh and legendary typographer), along with new works from K-Guy and originals and prints from a number of the South West’s finest.
ALL new work will be released on a totally random basis i.e. when the insomnia is bad it could be 2am which would suit those not adhering to GMT!
Rock Steady
