At 6pm on Friday 12th November Weapon of Choice Gallery will be throwing open their doors to the first solo show from the artist ‘Lokey’. Lokey was born and raised in Bristol. His passion for graffiti started in the mid 1980’s following a chance encounter in a local park with some break-dancing kids who had returned from their American holiday armed with hip-hop mix tapes and photographs of graffiti.
Lokey is a product of the Kingswood Hip Hop scene that nurtured the likes of Deed, Cheo, Kato and Soker. The youngest of the Veterans of Bristol writers he has been painting the streets for the last twenty years during which time he has been a member of Bad Applez, Dry Breadz, collaborated with many of the big names in graffiti (including Banksy) and is now considered one of the best 3D letter writers around.
This show is an exhibition of artworks adapted from Lokey’s black books, his inspiration for his graffiti, and an insight into his imagination. This one’s not to be missed!
Show runs until the 5th of December 2010.

These auctions are all about an artist called Rowdy. You may or may not know him or his work but you will have no doubt seen his trademark crocodiles. His career has been relentless; establishing in 1987 when he became an integral part of the Bristol graffiti scene and in which he is still remains instrumental.
We have had the pleasure of working with Rowdy and he has become a good friend of ours and so were obviously devastated to hear when, recently left his house, (and studio) for a walk, he returned just half hour later, to find everything had been burned to the ground. EVERYTHING! ID, money, clothes, personal possessions, art, the ability to make art, everything gone!
We realise that there are a whole host of charitable causes worth fighting for, countries that have suffered huge natural disaster who need aid, but there are times too when friends need help and so for the next couple of weeks there are a number of art auctions on e-bay, organised by Steal from Work and Burning Candy. All profit will go towards helping Rowdy get back on his feet and start over and to support someone who has so readily supported us as a scene by auctioning some art to help him get back to a position where he can do what he does best, making art.
It’s a testament to his popularity and reputation that so many artists have donated work to this auction. All work has been personally donated by the artists and the galleries that represent them: Banksy, Paul Insect, Swoon, Sickboy, Hush, Espo, the whole Burning Candy crew and a whole bunch more… So, it’s your chance to buy something beautiful and at the same time help out someone who has helped in his way to make graffiti and street art what it is today.
The auctions have started but there is still plenty of time to bid on the current auctions plus a promise of more to follow so go and check them out.

SARAH COCKINGS AND ALICE HODGE (aka CLEAN) WOULD LIKE TO CLEAN A FEW THINGS UP!
Sorry your homework has lead you up the garden path ….. We are not associated with the group THE CLEAN COLLECTIVE who caused the damage to Banksy’s work.
The confusion has arisen from the ‘Appropriate Media’ website being registered to The Clean Collective….
We (Alice Hodge and Sarah Cockings) are a collective called simply …. ‘CLEAN’
Thank you for taking such an interest in our work however we are not in anyway connected to the self proclaimed culprits ‘Appropriate Media’.

MILD MILD WEST DEFACEMENT
“Over the last 24 hours a huge storm has blown up in Bristol over the (attempted) defacing of Banksy’s infamous ‘Mild Mild West’ piece on Stokes Croft by a group calling themselves Appropriate Media. Internet chat on local graffiti forums suggests that The Clean Collective (whose work we sell) are somehow linked to this action; an allegation that we are looking into. It seems unlikely, however, that there is any connection between the two groups, not least because the two individuals alleged to be involved are currently not even in the UK. Furthermore it would be extremely odd if The Clean Collective shared the same vehemently anti-graffiti ethos as Appropriate Media, in light of their links with us and – by implication – our roster of street artists. We will keep you posted with any further developments as they occur.”
